Travel

n the last week I have been to America, Iran, Uzbekistan, China, Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Kazakhstan. And I didn’t even have to leave the UK.

Even though I already knew it, COVID lockdown really drove home the fact that we can #travel@thegfw prompt of the day— without stepping outside.

I made socca because I couldn’t make it to Nice. (Mexican) Taco Tuesdays became a religion. A homemade plate of spaghetti alle vongole took me to Sicily. Mapo tofu had me straight back to Chengdu. A slow-cooked pork shoulder plopped me in the East Village at Momofuku Ssam Bar. And then there were new places—Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Zanzibar, Sri Lanka, Latvia. I visited them all. I traveled everywhere when I wasn’t allowed to go anywhere.

The power of food, of cooking, to transport us anywhere we want in the world is an extraordinary one. Truly.

The power of purple carrots to turn your food purple is also extraordinary. Who knew 🤷‍♀️🤪🤦‍♀️ 💜
