TV, RADIO, PODCASTS & LIVE STREAMING
Well, the good/great news here is that I was on national television in both the United States and the United Kingdom, the latter live, the former on a major broadcast that reaches millions.
The CBS Saturday Morning “The Dish” spot skyrocketed SILK ROADS to an absurdly high number on the Amazon charts….for a minute / before Amazon ran out of stock.
[Please note: SILK ROADS remains out of stock on Amazon in the US, but the book is happily still available to purchase from your local indie booksellers, Bookshop.org and Barnes and Noble.]
My Sunday Brunch appearance was massively fun, and I honestly was just so impressed with the slick workings involved in the production of a live television program. SILK ROADS hit some “bestseller” spots the day after on the UK Amazon charts as well, so that was obviously cool too.
I did two live radio appearances— one for Alexis Conran at Times Radio in the UK and one with Sonali Karnik for the CBC in Canada— as well as one pre-taped interview for a local station in Dorset.
Podcasts! Podcasts a-plenty!
The Splendid Table — Wow. Francis Lam. Wow. Recorded 30 minutes after I finished my first ever food festival appearance at Ludlow, in-conversation with the wonderful Sue from Netherton Foundry. Francis and I had such a great conversation, that lovely Splendid Table folks went and loaded the whole thing up on their Youtube channel. And then my older sister called me to tell me she heard the episode on her local NPR station in California while she was driving to work. Dream. Come. True.
Cooking the Books (Live) with Gilly Smith - I hotfooted it down to Brighton for gilly smith after a day of filming with CBS in Walthamstow, and boy was it worth it.
Lecker — I didn’t want Lucy Dearlove to leave my house after we spent the day eating, chatting and recording. Come back!
This Is TASTE — I brought Matt Rodbard some coffee beans from Michigan, but I was really the one in need of caffeine. I’d been up since 3am to fly from DTW to LGA before I raced to the PRH building for a dream-come-true podcast recording, and then (more or less immediately thereafter) hopped on a (non-Acela) Amtrak to DC.
Anthrodish — sarah duignan, phd and I could have talked for hours. No joke. And I am so sad we didn’t have more time to chat in person when we met the following month at The Good Egg in Toronto. Next time! For sure!
In addition to the above episodes, I’ve recorded three more (big ones!) that will be out in winter/spring 2026.
Ooh! I also did some “live streaming” this year. It’s a bit nerve-wracking, but FUN.
I went live for an hour with Talk Shop Live, cooking up some shivit oshi and just chatting away. My SYA classmate, Bryan, founded the platform, and it’s quite possibly the future?
SousChef invited me over to their HQ to lead a masterclass on cumin and tofu. Also massively fun (and tasty!)
A longtime student of their online classes, I was honored to be invited to lead a Milk Street Virtual class (we made dumplings and a salad), and was even more honored to be asked back to lead a small group workshop in January!
BEST OFs
I will leave these here without comment. I appreciate every single list SILK ROADS has appeared on, while also acknowledge that these lists are rife with personal opinion and access issues. To some, they mean everything. To others, they mean very little. To me, well, it’s a mixed bag….that’s mostly filled with gratitude and honor, but also a bit of frustration…because, let’s be honest here, I would obviously love to be on ALLLLLL the lists.
